St. Paul Stephen Hamrick’s depiction of a rainbow trout about to catch a bead-head nymph that his brother designed and tied, won the 2004 Trout and Salmon Stamp contest. Hamrick, who grew up in Minnetonka, also won the 1986 and 1992 contests. This is the

Hamrick’s design was selected from about 15 designs at this year’s contest. The other finalist was Stuart Nelson, of Cloquet. The DNR sells about 90,000 trout and salmon stamps each year. The 2004 stamp will cost $10 and proceeds will go toward trout and salmon habitat improvement and stocking programs.
