The new cases bring the total of diseased deer found in the
Mount Horeb area to 204 about 2 percent of the deer that were
examined.
DNR Secretary Scott Hassett said the state plans to alter its
CWD testing strategy, focusing more on the Illinois border and
areas around game farms where deer have tested positive. The DNR
has no plans to repeat the extensive statewide testing it conducted
during last fall’s hunting seasons. More than 40,000 deer were
submitted statewide for analysis for CWD.
