Walker, Minn. As many as 480 participants will angle for a piece of a purse that will exceed $100,000 in cash and prizes when the Evinrude Walleye Classic comes to Leech Lake, May 31-June 1.

The tournament is based in City Park in Walker. In addition to the tourney, there are several exhibits, educational activities, and a carnival for youth anglers. Minneapolis Shane Mahoney, widely known internationally as a lecturer on environmental and resource conservation issues, will be the speaker for this year’s Kolshorn Memorial Lecture, coming to the University of Minnesota’s Bell Museum on April 21, at 7

Mahoney’s presentation is entitled, “Coming Home to Our Past: Modern Man’s Struggle for Nature.” Mahoney, a native of Newfoundland, is a biologist and writer. This year he was made executive director and chair of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Science at Memorial University in Newfoundland. The event is free and open to the public.
