Grand Rapids, Minn. The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Turn In Poachers, and the DNR annually present a Deer Hunter Ethics Award that honors a deer hunter who has exhibited conduct that can serve as an example of admirable hunting practices.

Anyone may nominate a hunter by writing a letter explaining why that person is worthy of this recognition. Both youth and adults are eligible, but nominees must be Minnesota residents, and the ethical event must have occurred during the 2002 season. The MDHA will accept nominations for the ethics award until Feb. 15. Nomination letters

St. Paul The Minnesota Sportsmen’s Show is back in St. Paul and runs through Jan. 19.

The 33rd annual Sportsmen’s Show combines all things sporting, including boats, camping equipment, RVs, and hunting and fishing. St. Paul According to the state DNR, several county sheriff’s departments have closed lakes to motor vehicle travel. Those closed are posted on the DNR’s web site: www.dnr.state.mn.us.

As of Tuesday, those closed to car and truck travel included Crooked Lake, Ham Lake, Lake George, Martin Lake, Centerville Lake, and Peltier Lake (all in Anoka County), Clear Lake in Waseca County, and Bald Eagle Lake in Ramsey County.
