Madison, Wis. Effective July 3, feeding and baiting deer became illegal across Wisconsin. The prohibition is part of efforts to control chronic wasting disease and reduce the chance that CWD becomes established in new areas of Wisconsin, officials said.

“Any practice that concentrates deer including baiting and feeding is likely to increase the spread of CWD,” said Bill VanderZouwen, chief of the Wisconsin DNR’s wildlife and landscape ecology section. St. Paul Youth 16 years old and younger are invited to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, 12th annual Leech Lake Dam and Recreation Area’s Kids’ Fishing Derby, July 12. The derby will be held below the dam at 01217 Federal Dam Dr. NE, F
