Madison, Wis. The Wisconsin DNR says the state’s wolf population has risen to 320 animals, about 70 more than a year ago.

Adrian Wydeven, state DNR wolf biologist, said pup survival was good last year, and the large deer population provides a good food source for wolves. At 320 wolves, the population is nearing the 350-animal goal established in the Wisconsin DNR’s wolf management plan, and efforts have begun to remove the animal from the state’s endangered

Minneapolis The 35th Annual Gander Mountain/MinnKota Crappie Contest happens this Saturday, April 27.

St. Paul The city of Stillwater received state funding last week to help in a land purchase along Brown’s Creek which will aid in preservation of the creek.

The $300,000, from the state DNR’s Metro Greenways program and delivered by Stillwater Rep. Mark Holsten, will help defray the $610,000 purchase price of the site. Brown’s Creek is one of the few remaining trout streams in the region. The land to be purchased is near the corner of Neal and McKusik avenues in Stillwater.
