Zimmerman, Minn. An 18-year-old man died when the snowmobile he was riding plunged through thin ice on a frozen lake in central Minnesota.

Tyler Nelson was snowmobiling on Lake Fremont with a friend when
he went through the ice. Justin Birkholtz, 20, rode his snowmobile
across the ice to a residence on the lake and got a rowboat,
according to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department. Birkholtz
pulled the boat back near the open water and pulled Nelson out.

Nelson was pronounced dead at Princeton hospital. It was the
first snowmobile fatality in Minnesota this winter season.
