Watson, Minn. Both the number of geese taking up temporary residence and those harvested by hunters are on the rise as the controlled Lac qui Parle hunt heads for the home stretch.

As of Monday, wildlife officials at the LqP Wildlife Management Area said about 120,000 geese were staging there. The harvest had reached nearly 5,700. The harvest index is 12,000 geese this year, a number unlikely to be reached, especially since deer hunting has taken some of the goose hunting pressure away from LqP, according to
