Des Moines The spring 2001 harvest of 20,500 wild turkeys in Iowa fell about 300 short of the record set the previous spring.

Dale Garner, state DNR wildlife biologist, said the success rate
for hunters fell 1 percent this spring, as 43.1 percent of hunters
took a bird. An estimated 47,600 hunters were in the field during
the spring turkey hunting season.
