St. Paul Officials from White Earth Band of Chippewa and the state have hired a facilitator to help them set rules for hunting and fishing on reservation land.

A Supreme Court decision in 1980 said that the White Earth Band is a sovereign nation and is not bound by the state’s rules for fishing, hunting and gathering on the reservation. The Ozaukee County Chapter of the Great Lakes Sport Fisherman Club meets the first Tuesday of each month from October through May at the Rose Harms American Legion Post 355, 1540 13th Ave., Grafton. Guest speakers talk about salmon and trout every month.
