St. Paul Because of growing numbers of zebra mussels in the St. Croix River, the DNR has designated a portion of the river from just north of Stillwater to the Mississippi River as “infested.” As a result, this spring boaters need to take additional step

Instead of simply removing visible zebra mussels from their
boats, boaters in this section of river now must completely drain
the water from their boats and empty their livewells and bait
buckets before they leave the landing. The same steps are required
for boaters on Lake Zumbro, Minnesota’s only inland lake declared
to be infested. Similar regs apply on the Mississippi River
downstream of the Twin Cities which has been infested with zebra
mussels for several years.
