Washington, D.C. Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson has introduced legislation that would expand the total number of acres authorized for the Conservation Reserve Program from 36.2 million to 45 million acres.

“This is not a solution to today’s farm crisis, but it is a
proven program with demonstrated ability that can help some farmers
and allow us to expand the conservation and wildlife benefits
across the country,” Peterson said of the federal set-aside
program.

Peterson said the bill is supported by a number of conservation
organizations including Pheasants Forever and the International
Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
