John Deere coyote’ encounter

Late last week, while heading east on Minnesota Hwy. 7 on a
return trip from a western Minnesota varmint hunt, I spotted three
coyotes walking along a creek bed a mile or so off the road near
Mayer, north of Waconia.

These coyotes were feeding and paying little attention to their
surroundings as they followed the natural creek bed.

My hunting plan formed quickly: head them off in the direction
they were moving. Catching a break, I got permission from the
landowner who was retrieving his mail as I neared the
mid-section.

All clear with the landowner, I snowshoed across the field in
full camo hoping to take advantage of a mid-field snowdrift to
provide an ambush site. I peered over the drift and saw the coyotes
had changed direction and were headed north, still unaware of my
presence.
