Unusual warm, dry weather leaves streams low - Northeast Report

Posted on April 12, 2012

Lake Wallenpaupack (Pike County)

Conditions were still cold April 1 and activity was slow.

Fishing Creek (Columbia County)

Clear, lower-than-average flow, and water in the 50s was reported March 30. Blue-winged olives (18) were hatching, along with black midges (12), black stonefly nymphs (14-16), and quill Gordons (12). Rolling mid- to small-size flies on the bottom was recommended. A few trout were rising to BWOs.

Delaware River

Anglers were catching decent numbers of shad at the end of March. Water was low from lack of snow melt and less than half an inch of rain in over a month. Clear water made for tough smallmouth bass fishing.

Susquehanna River

Nice catches of bass were reported in late March, with anglers doing well on tubes and jerk baits around the back sides of water willow humps and small islands.
