Great Lakes ‘Eddies’

Those of you enamored of all things Great Lakes might want to
check out the online magazine called Eddies, a quarterly
publication of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Division of
Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Conservation: www.
fws.gov/eddies
. The current issue is dedicated to Great Lakes
fisheries conservation.

Articles include past and present information about lampreys in
the lakes, how they got there, what’s being done to contain them
and prospects for continued lamprey management.

Asian carp – or the potential for Asian carp – in the Great Lakes
is detailed in another article. There’s an upbeat article about
American eel. I bet you didn’t know some of the Great Lakes host
this species, for at least part of its life.

There are lake trout stories (the feds are big on lake trout) and
updates on other ongoing science projects by researchers from
Michigan and other states.

Give it a click. I think you’ll like it.
