Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report - October 18th, 2013

ALEXANDRIA AREA

A jig and minnow is producing walleyes in 40 to 50 feet at Lake Miltona and Lake Ida. Anglers fishing the shorelines of Reno Lake are catching walleyes and crappies during the evening hours. Work the 16- to 20-foot weedlines of Lake Darling, Lake Le Homme Dieu, and Lake Carlos with minnows for walleyes. Muskies weren’t as active this week, but some follows were reported off Lobster Lake and Miltona. A few roosters were shot opening weekend and waterfowl hunters are shooting puddle ducks and geese.

BATTLE LAKE

You’ll catch walleyes with Rapalas or a jig and minnow in six to 10 feet and with crawlers in 15 to 19 feet on Otter Tail Lake, West Battle Lake, and Rush Lake. Bass are hitting spinnerbaits in the cabbage at Elbow Lake, Star Lake, and Dead Lake, while muskies are taking sucker minnows in 17 to 22 feet on West Battle. Sunfish can be had in the 10- to 14-foot weeds of Star, Fish Lake, and Stalker Lake, while crappies are hanging in 10 to 16 feet at West Battle, Fish, and Clitherall Lake. Trolling spoons has turned pike in 17 to 20 feet on Otter Tail and Donald Lake. Duck hunters are shooting mallards and wood ducks with few divers in the mix.

DETROIT LAKES

Walleyes continue to hit a jig and minnow in 14 to 22 feet at Big Detroit Lake, Lake Sallie, and Pelican Lake. Large sucker minnows are triggering muskies in 10 to 12 feet on Pelican and Big Detroit. Look for a mixed bag of panfish from 12 to 15 feet on lakes such as Sour, Deadshot Bay, Floyd, Severson, and Little Detroit. Duck hunters are shooting mallards, wood ducks, geese, and a few ringnecks.
