Upper Peninsula Fishing Report - November 9th, 2012

Pickford Area

Deer numbers are up and archers report very good success. Bucks are rutting and does are on the run. Hunting for diver ducks has been very good at Cedarville and in Raber Bay. Predator hunting has been good and rabbit hunting has been good, too. Fishing pressure in the area has been light, but walleyes are hitting crankbaits in 14 feet of water in Raber Bay.

Curtis Area

Deer hunting has improved and bucks are chasing does. Grouse hunting has been good in Mackinac and Luce counties now that the leaves have fallen. Walleye fishing has been good on Manistique Lakes, but fishing pressure has been light.

Garden Area

Deer hunting has been slow, but bucks are starting to chase does and the action should improve. Grouse hunting has been good now that the leaves are down. Fishing pressure has been light on Big Bay de Noc, but those venturing out are picking up fair numbers of bass, walleyes, and perch.

L’Anse Area

Bucks are chasing does and deer numbers are up in the area. Grouse and waterfowl hunting has been spotty. A few salmon are still being found in the local rivers but the run is winding down. Steelhead and browns are hitting in Lake Superior. Anglers are casting from shore around the river mouths.

Bergland Area

Deer numbers are up in the western U.P., but hunting pressure has been light. Bucks are starting to chase does. Grouse hunting has slowed a little, but remains pretty good. Walleye fishing has slowed on Lake Gigebic. Shore anglers are picking up a few fish.

Ontonagon Area

Grouse and woodcock hunting has been spotty. Goose hunting was good, but duck flights seem to be  down. Archery deer season has been slow so far, but deer numbers are up. Lake trout are hitting in Lake Superior at Silver City. Anglers casting spoons from shore report a good bite. Boat anglers are having difficulty getting out because of high winds.
