Central Lower Peninsula Fishing Report - November 9th, 2012

Saginaw Bay Area

Bucks are on the move and chasing does. Waterfowl hunting has been very good and upland bird hunters report fair flush rates. Perch fishing has been good on Saginaw Bay when the wind allows anglers to get out. Fish are hitting from mouth of the Saginaw River out to the Spark Plug. Walleyes are starting to move back into the bay and action will improve as the water cools. Crankbaits have produced the best results.

Baldwin Area

Deer hunting is heating up and bucks are chasing does. Deer numbers are in very good shape and hunting pressure is up. Grouse hunting has been pretty good, but woodcock numbers are down. Steelhead fishing has been good on the Pere Marquette River. Egg patterns, spawn, and wax worms have been producing good results. Inland lake fishing has been fair. A few bluegills have been caught on Wolf and Idlewild lakes.

Grand Haven Area

Despite a bad outbreak of EHD, archery season has been pretty good with several nice bucks being taken. The rut is on. Bucks are chasing does. Duck hunting has been fair and flight birds have yet to show up. Whitefish and steelhead are starting to hit off the pier heads on Lake Michigan.

Caseville Area

The rut is on in the Thumb. Bucks are chasing does and hunters report good success. Pheasant hunting has been fair and bird numbers are up slightly. Waterfowlers report good action with lots of redheads in the bag. Perch fishing has been very good in the Pigeon River and off the breakwall on Lake Michigan. A few walleyes are being caught and lake trout fishing should heat up any day.

Port Huron

Fishing has been slow with high winds keeping anglers off the water. Walleye fishing has been good in the St. Clair River with the best action coming to anglers fishing at night. Bucks are rutting in St. Clair County. Deer hunting has been good. Fall turkey hunting has been great.
