U.S. Geological Survey researchers led by Kevin Kenow caught live loons on Big Birch Lake in central Minnesota on Tuesday night, July 10. This video shows an adult bird being captured in a net. Per the story in the print edition of this week's Outdoor News, the USGS scientists then took blood samples from the birds, as well as fitted them with leg bands and geo-locators.
