Posted on May 9, 2013

Saginaw Bay Area

Walleye fishing on Saginaw Bay has been good. Anglers report taking good numbers of fish off Linwood in 12 to 17 feet of water. Good smelt runs have been reported in streams and cuts and along the shore of Lake Huron. Two-gallon limits have been coming fast at the Singing Bridge and Point Lookout. Turkey season has been very good.

Baldwin Area

The Pere Marquette River was high for the trout opener, but anglers reported success. The best fishing has been in the upper stretches of the river and in Sanborn Creek. There are still steelhead in the river, too. Crappies and bluegills have been caught on some of the local lakes.

Weidman Area

Walleye fishing was just getting started last week in Isabella County. Bluegills were moving into the shallows and crappie fishing has been good on Stevenson Lake, Chippewa Lake, and the Martini Chain of Lakes. Turkey hunting has been good. A few morels have been found.

Port Huron

Salmon fishing has been good in Lake Huron from Port Huron to Harbor Beach. Anglers fishing with spoons in 20 to 30 feet of water report catching lots of kings up to 18 pounds  and fair numbers of cohos. Walleyes have moved into the St. Clair River, and anglers are dialing in. Jiggers, whippers, and hand-liners are all taking fish. Turkey hunting is off to a fair start.
