Leeches and crawlers starting to produce more walleyes - Metro Report
NORTHEAST METRO
Walleyes and smallmouth bass are hitting Lindy Rigs and leeches or crankbaits in the Prescott area of the St. Croix River in 20 feet. Crappies are taking minnows on Big Marine Lake in 10 to 12 feet, while the shorelines of White Bear Lake and Lake Peltier are producing sunfish. Sucker minnows or spinnerbaits are turning northern pike at Demonterville Lake and Bald Eagle Lake. Catfish action has improved on the current breaks of the Mississippi River.

WEST METRO
Crappie and sunfish action has picked up straight out from the access on Lake Parley in six to 12 feet. Lake Bavaria is kicking out crappies in less than six feet and Lake Auburn is kicking out sunfish in four feet. On the Minnesota River, anglers are finding walleyes and catfish in the deeper holes and creek mouths. Lake Zumbra and Steiger Lake are producing northern pike on sucker minnows in 10 to 12 feet.

LAKE WACONIA
Look for walleyes to hit a jig and leech on the 12-foot weedlines of Kegg’s Reef and the north side of the island. The shallow pencil reeds and docks are holding sunfish and a few crappies. Northern pike continue to hit crankbaits on the weedlines and flats in six to eight feet.

LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
Sunfish and crappies are being found from the shorelines out to the eight-foot weeds on Lake Minnetonka, Lake Independence, and Lake Sarah. The deep side of the weed flats on Minnetonka are producing northern pike and walleyes are being taken during low-light periods in 16 to 18 feet in the big bays of Minnetonka with leeches or minnows. The north side of Independence is giving up walleyes on slip bobbers and leeches in 15 feet.

ANNANDALE AREA
Pike are being caught on spoons or sucker minnows on the weedlines of lakes John, Sugar, Granite, Clearwater, and Cedar. Clearwater continues to produce walleyes in 14 to 24 feet on minnows, crawlers, and leeches. A few walleyes also have come off Cedar and Lake Sylvia in 14 to 20 feet via live bait. Sunfish have moved along the shorelines of Clearwater, John, Sylvia, French Lake, Pleasant Lake, and Ramsey Lake. A few crappies are being caught in 12 to 15 feet at Clearwater, French, Sylvia, and Granite Lake.

CHISAGO AREA
A jig and minnow is producing walleyes on the 12- to 14-foot weedlines at Chisago Lake, South Lindstrom Lake, Green Lake, and South Center Lake. Look for crappies in less than six feet at Kroon Lake, South Lindstrom, North Center Lake, and South Center. On Sunrise Lake, you’ll find sunfish and crappies in four to six feet and northern pike on the six- to 10-foot weed edges.
