Southeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report - July 4th, 2014

Octararo County (Lancaster County) — As of June 22, Jim Neary’s Bait and Tackle reported an excellent bass bite, with fish up to 5 pounds 13 ounces reported on a variety of lures, from spinnerbaits to crankbaits to creature baits. The white perch bite was slower than a month ago. Fish were hitting 1⁄16-ounce jigs or crawlers off the bottom. Crappies were biting large fatheads or jigs with twister tails. Walleyes were reported at the covered bridge, and hitting 1⁄8-ounce jigs with twister tails in chartreuse or darker green the best colors.

Tulpehocken Creek (Berks County) — Water was just over 57 degrees June 21 and conditions were good. TCO Fly Shop recommended nymphing in the morning, then changing to a dry dropper. Hatches included green caddis (16-20), tan caddis (16-20), blue- winged olives (20-24), midges (18-24) and sulphurs (14-18).
