Sunday hunt going to court in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg — The fight to bring Sunday hunting to Pennsylvania is not over yet.
A grassroots sportsmen’s coalition called Hunters United for Sunday Hunting is preparing to take the battle to the courts rather than the state Legislature.
The group expects to sign a contract with an attorney within a few weeks, with the intention of going to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court with its case no later than July.
“We seek to re-establish hunting as a constitutional right and abolish the Sunday hunting ban at the same time,” said Kathy Davis, of Speers in Washington County, one of the group’s volunteers.
“That is our goal.”
That was also the goal of the National Rifle Association, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, National Shooting Sports Foundation and others last year when they put on a major push to convince state lawmakers to pass a bill that would have allowed the Pennsylvania Game Commission to decide if and when to include Sundays in hunting seasons.
But the bill never even came up for a vote.
That seemed to be the last chance for Sunday hunting advocates, at least for a while. But Hunters United for Sunday Hunting isn’t giving up.
In fact, the group is optimistic the long-standing law and some more recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions make this the perfect time to take on the Sunday hunting ban.
The fight will be expensive, though. The group estimates it will need $70,000 to $150,000 to wage a legal battle. It’s asking sportsmen to foot the bill.
“We want this to be a grassroots movement, and we want every Joe Hunter who contributes to have as much say as the next, whether they contribute $5 or $500,” Davis said.
The group collected more than $7,000 in its first two weeks. That’s enough to get started, and Davis and her fellow volunteers hope the suit will succeed where proposed legislation failed.
“Lawmakers had 25-plus years to act on this and they did not, so we’re going to take it out of their hands and go straight to the courts,” Davis said.

This is just an effort by a handful of environmentalists to get more deer killed. The next stage of the gameless commissions management plan going forward. And K. Davis is NO FRIEND to sportsmen. Just an agenda driven environmentalist.
Its also just a ploy to gain more funding for Pensylvania federation. That is where the money will go that is not spent for lawsuit if the case is thrown out, or otherwise cut short. These people are not trustworthy and I would not give them a dime.
This has also been tried in west virginia, and the case was a failure.
Nice to see you everywhere we go. Seems to me that you are against almost anything that is positive for hunting. Are you sure you aren't a member of the Humane Society of the United States? You know; that anti-hunting group?
Hunters United for Sunday Hunting is a BY hunter, FOR hunter effort. Our first Constitution said "The inhabitants shall have the liberty to hunt and fowl in all seasonable times on land they hold and all other land therein not inclosed". We intend to re-establish the RIGHT to hunt in PA, in addition to giving regulatory authority of Sundays to the Game Commission.
I am Kathy Davis, and Don Heckman from the PA State Chapter of the NWTF is the other director. We are in the selection process for naming our other directors.
Since Bob's article, we have raised more money, totaling just under $11,000. We have retained attorney Peter J. Russo, and have several other attorneys; including a renowned second amendment attorney, who for now are giving us pro-bone advice.

If anyone has questions about me, I was named one of the 25 Most influential people in the Nation in hunting and wildlife management by Outdoor Life Magazine. Other recipients are Jim and Dick Cabela; Governor Mike Huckabee, Gary Loomis, and Dr Grant Woods.
Wonder if our anti-hunter can provide his credentials now? LOL

Kathy.
That was supposed to be pro-bono. :) Hope you all join with us!
This is a freedom issue. Freedom of choice. If we can drink and gamble on Sunday, why can't we participate in a family building activity like hunting?
Hunting is the ONLY recreational activity banned on any day of the week. Join us at www.huntsunday.com
Here is the West Virginia case. It was lost because Sunday hunting was on a ballot. We are more than aware of the case. Had it not been on a ballot already, OR had they asked for PUBLIC land to be included; they may have won on those merits.

This case bears no reasonable resemblance to our case in the least.
Keep up the good work Kathy, and ignore Sandman...nobody who knows anything about hunting takes him seriously. Good luck!
THANK YOU Kathy, I support your efforts both morally and monetarily. The State Blue law that once forbid Sunday hunting and now restricts it hasn't served the purpose it's creators intended for a long time if it ever did, and should have been elimanated decades ago. In my opinion those who want to keep this law abuse religion and use it as a mask to hide their real reasons.
For those that do not know, this is Ms. Anti-deer davis. Environmentalist at large. And the other names include another of her many identities (bioguy) that she goes by on another board and got banned for, and her significant (not really significant) other. Who is also a fellow environmentalist.
This 'couple' are no friends to us.

Completely meaningless. You were nominated by a friend (anyone could be nominated, and your intent was to gain crediblity. Clear that is what you are doing by pointing to that here. You lied about the credentials when asked. You are no hunter advacate and need to stay as far away from us as possible. We dont want or need your kind speaking for us. You want to piggyback politically off of the hunters of this state. Make your own way environmentalist.
For anyone that doesnt know, she sought the southwest pgc commissioner seat that Sclemmer now holds. She failed due to the diligence of concerned sportsmen who heard of this attempted enviro invasion of the commissioner board. She had tried to "pad the resume" trying to gain credibility where she has none. Spearheading the sunday hunting issue is to gain credibility and to help something she has pushed for continuously for years now. Less deer across the board. She voted for less on the cac she sat on, and has lobbied Harrisburg for political actions to wipe out the herds. She has also been calle an antihunter by many including my state representative.
