Northeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report - January 3rd, 2013

Posted on January 3, 2013

Big Fishing Creek (Clinton County)

Average flow and high, off-color water in the 40s was reported Dec. 22. Trout were in their winter spots---the slow, deep pools. Streamers were the best bet, although micro-nymphs on light tippet were a good alternative. Hatches included black midges (24), cream midges (24), and Blue-Winged Olives (20-24).

Lake Wallenpaupack (Pike County)

Spotty catches of hybrid striped bass were reported on live bait, such as alewives. Smallmouth bass also were hit or miss, with blade baits, jigging spoons, and drop-shotting producing yields in deeper water. Anglers were trolling for brown trout.

Susquehanna River (Bradford County)

Walleyes were biting as of mid-December.

Lackawanna Lake (Lackawanna County)

Nice-size chain pickerel and crappies were reported in mid to late December.

Peck’s Pond, Little Mud Pond (Pike County)

Morning skim ice was forming on some smaller lakes, but melting off during the day.

Lehigh River

A lot of rain blew out the Lehigh as of December 22, leaving it high and muddy.  The trout bite was good prior to the cold, wet, windy weather just before Christmas.
