Finger Lakes/Southern Tier Fishing Report, January 25th, 2013
Cayuga Lake
Remember, the Finger Lakes tributary season closed on Dec. 31. There are a few exceptions to this, so check the Finger Lakes Tributary regulations.
Seneca Lake
Yellow perch and black crappie were being caught from the pier in Watkins Glen on fathead minnows, wax worms and spikes. After catching a few fish on one type of bait, if action slows down, switch types. Brown trout and Atlantic salmon were hitting on stickbaits fished around the salt plant. Lake trout were also hitting around the salt plant on egg sacs and small minnows. Fishing there after dark was also producing lakers.
Otisco Lake
Hearing nothing yet as far as safe ice.
Keuka Lake
Nothing to report.
Owasco Lake
Nothing to report on the heels of the warm spell. Keep an eye on changing conditions and use caution.
Skaneateles Lake
No update.
Canandaigua Lake
The ramp at the Woodville boat launch on the south end of Canandaigua Lake was set to be closed beginning Jan. 8. Construction was expected to continue until at least the end of January. The parking lot will remain open during construction.
Susquehanna, Chenango, Tioughnioga and Unadilla rivers
Nothing new.
Whitney Point Reservoir
The mid-month warmup forced the postponement of the Almost-Annual Crappie Derby, which was pushed back to Feb. 9, weather permitting. Keep an eye on changing conditions and updates on the status of the event at www.crappiederby.com.
