Central Lower Peninsula Fishing Report - January 31st, 2013

Saginaw Bay Area

Ice was forming on Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay last week, and a few anglers were walking out in the shallows and catching perch. The best action was reported by anglers fishing minnows inside Linwood Marina. Coyote hunting is improving.

Baldwin Area

Steelhead fishing has been good on the Pere Marquette River, but bitter cold weather has slowed fishing pressure. There was up to 6 inches of solid ice on local lakes in Lake County. Fishing has been fair for pike and bluegills on Big Star and Idlewild lakes. A few perch have been caught on Big Bass Lake.

Lansing Area

Walleyes, pike, and an occasional steelhead have been caught in the Grand River at Moore’s Park and the North Lansing Dam. Ice was forming on Lake Lansing last week, and a few anglers reported decent panfish action on wax worms.

Caseville Area

There was up to 10 inches of ice on Lake Huron at Caseville last week. Perch and pike have been caught in the harbor; whitefish, perch, walleyes, and lakers along the breakwall and in the Pigeon River. There was about 3 inches of snow on the ground. Fox and coyote hunting has been good. Rabbit hunting has been decent.

Port Huron

There was up to 7 inches of ice in the harbors in southern Lake Huron last week. Browns, steelhead, and lake trout were hitting in Lexington Harbor. Shore anglers report hit-or-miss action off the boardwalk on the St. Clair River in Port Huron. The best action has come on minnows and red-eye spoons. There was about 4 inches of snow on the ground, and coyote hunting has improved.
