DNR to sell ad space in hunting digest

Jane BeathardColumbus – The Ohio Hunting and Trapping Regulations booklet for 2013-14 will be fatter than previous editions, according to Vicki Ervin of the Ohio DNR’s wildlife division.

Sixteen pages of commercial advertising will plump the guidebook to 64 pages and create an Outdoor Sports Marketplace section.

The Ohio DNR prints about 850,000 regulation booklets annually at a cost of $130,000. They are distributed free of charge through license outlets, outdoors shows, fairs and other places where hunting and trapping enthusiasts gather.

Ad sales will help defray production costs.

Ads will range from $500 to $9,000, depending on size and location within the limited number of pages, Ervin said.

A bidding process will determine who and what receives advertising space. March 21 is the deadline for submitting bids.
