Northeast Minnesota Fishing Report - December 7th, 2012

Posted on December 6, 2012

DULUTH AREA

The ice that was in place melted away through the weekend and into Monday with 50-degree temperatures. Fortunately, it got cold Monday night and was expected to remain cold through this week, so look for walkable ice to again form very soon.

GRAND MARAIS AREA

The ice that remained through last weekend’s warm weather was not safe for foot travel early this week. The good news is that some ice was still on the lakes and with cold weather in the forecast, it shouldn’t take but a few days for those small lakes to again be firmed up enough for foot travel.

LAKE KABETOGAMA

The bays have three to five inches of ice with limited spearing and angling taking place. Most of the pike taken have been small, while crappie and walleye reports have been nonexistent. The ice has been slow to develop, especially with the warm weather last weekend, so people have been staying close to shore.
