Northeast Minnesota Fishing Report - August 10th, 2012
The eight- to 10-foot weedbeds on Fish Lake are producing northern pike and bluegills. Look to Island Lake with chubs for walleyes in 25 feet and smallmouth bass continue to hit topwater baits at Island on the shallow structure. Lake trout are hitting green and silver spoons about 70 feet down north of Two Harbors on Lake Superior. Anglers also are finding cohos north of this area over slightly deeper water.

Crappies are suspended over 20 to 22 feet at Fall Lake, Birch Lake, and Lake Gabriel. Walleyes are hitting leeches, minnows, and Shad Raps during low-light periods in 16 to 18 feet at Fall, Birch, Farm Lake, Basswood Lake, and White Iron Lake. Smallmouth bass action is best during the evening hours with topwater baits on Crooked Lake and Basswood and small northern pike are hitting spoons or sucker minnows on the weedlines of Birch and Burntside lakes.

GRAND MARAIS AREA
Walleyes are hitting slip bobbers and leeches or minnows in 12 to 17 feet at Two Island Lake, six to eight feet at Elbow Lake, and in 20 to 28 feet at Devil Fish Lake. Crawlers are producing smallmouth bass in eight to 18 feet on Devil Track Lake or 12 to 15 feet at Poplar Lake. Green spoons have been the ticket for lake trout over 120 to 200 feet or salmon over 120 feet on Lake Superior. Lake trout also are being taken with ciscoes over 55 to 70 feet on Lake Saganaga or 45 to 60 feet at Loon Lake.
