Unusual warm, dry weather leaves streams low - South Central Report
Little Juniata River (Huntingdon County)
Flow was lower than normal and clear and in the 50s March 31. Nymphing with small to mid-size flies and streamers (6 or smaller) was productive. Hatches included black midges, black stone flies (12-18), blue-winged olives (18), and grannums (14-16). Reducing tippets and fishing BWOs will fool rising trout here.
Juniata River (Mifflin County)
Alexis Dedmon, of Lewistown, released a 21-inch, 4½-pound bass on a night crawler in clear conditions near Lewistown on March 22. She caught five other bass, 12 to 18 inches.
Koon, Gordon lakes (Bedford County)
These twin lakes were yielding nice bluegills, crappies and perch on minnows and small jigs tipped with maggots or waxworms.
Lake Marburg (York, Adams counties)
Panfishing was productive in March. A few muskies were released.
