Early warmup triggers plenty of fishing activity in N.Y. - Adirondacks Report

Posted on April 5, 2012

North Country anglers were looking forward to the official kickoff of the trout season April 1, and with good reason. For the first time in many years all of the Adirondack trout rivers and streams will be open; some may even be stocked ahead of the opener. Even some backcountry brook trout ponds may offer some fishing. One option is Mirror Lake in Lake Placid for rainbow trout, and perhaps Lake Placid itself for a chance at a big laker.

On Lake Champlain, anglers were taking lake trout off the pier in Crown Point, as well as in other traditional spring spots. Tributary anglers were also reporting mixed results for steelhead.

Boaters are reminded all persons aboard a pleasure vessel less than 21 feet – regardless of age – must wear a personal flotation device from Nov. 1 to May 1.
