Spring Grove leads the way on opening day of high school shoot
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — Spring Grove High School kicked off the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Trap Shooting Championship by winning the Class A overall and varsity team titles Monday at Alexandria Shooting Park.
Besides Spring Grove, also winning team titles were Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (junior varsity) and Hinckley-Finlayson (novice).
DGF’s Ben Ellenbaum was the top overall shooter after also winning the junior varsity boys division. Other champions: Carter Conradt, Southland, varsity boys; Toni Long, Blackduck, varsity girls; Kennedy Brouwer, Central Minnesota Christian School, junior varsity girls; Tristan Lewison, LeRoy-Ostrander, novice boys; and Payton Schwingle, Fillmore Central, novice girls.

The championship, regarded as the world’s largest shooting sport event, runs through Tuesday, June 20, with each day featuring a different class in the nine-day event, finishing with 9A on Tuesday. The championship serves as a team qualifier for the state tournament, scheduled June 24 at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
