Lake of the Woods area adds rainbow trout to the mix
As if the Lake of the Woods area didn’t have enough fish species to choose from …
According to a story in this week’s Lake of the Woods Tourism newsletter, courtesy of the Northern Light Region in Baudette, “catchable-sized” rainbow trout were recently stocked into the Pitt Grade fishery.
According to the story, the trout were stocked at the confluence of the Pitt Grade and Peppermint Creek, and for four miles upstream from there. The Pitt Grade is located along Pitt Grade Forest Road, which begins approximately five miles south of Pitt, or about 12 miles southwest of Baudette.
Anglers need a trout stamp validation and a Minnesota fishing license to fish for trout in designated trout streams such as the Pitt Grade. Trout stamps are not needed for children under age 18 or adults 65 and older.
For 2017, the stream trout season for the Pitt Grade runs from April 15 to Oct. 1. The possession limit is five, with only one fish over 16 inches allowed.
