Finger Lake Fishing Report – January 24th, 2014
Cayuga Lake: There is ice on the north end and anglers have been out, but no reports of ice thickness.
Seneca Lake: The cold and windy weather has made getting out in a boat difficult again this week, so no new information.
Canandaigua Lake: No safe ice at last check.
Keuka Lake: Nothing to report.
Owasco Lake: There was reported to be 5 inches of ice on the south end, out to about 10 feet of water. But that may have changed by now.
Otisco Lake: There were reports of 4-6 inches of ice on the north end of the lake. Bluegills and pumpkinseeds were hitting on small jigs. Tiger muskie fishing has been slow so far for anglers using tip-ups and minnows.
Skaneateles Lake: No safe ice to report.
Susquehanna, Chenango, Tioughnioga and Unadilla rivers: Blown out as of late last week, with high waters and chunk ice.
Whitney Point Reservoir: The Pond area (out in front of Dorchester Park) had around 8 inches of ice, and the channel had around 6 inches before a mid-month warmup ahead of the Almost Annual Crappie Derby. Anglers had been getting a few walleye, crappie and some nice bluegills. Remember, ice thickness varies greatly on the reservoir so use caution and your own good judgment when heading out.
