Illinois tubing permit fee goes flat
The $6 permit fee to float on an innertube in Illinois appears to have been short-lived. In a posting on its Facebook page, DNR announced that it has "reviewed the inclusion of innertubes in the Water Usage Stamp, and has decided to submit rule changes to the legislature to eliminate that requirement of the program."
A timeline for the fee to be removed from regulations under the Water Usage Stamp, which took effect July 1, is unclear. But the DNR post did say "While the rule changes are being submitted through the legislative process, DNR Office of Law Enforcement will instruct its conservation officers of the pending change and direct our professionals not to enforce the existing rules."
Funds generated from water stamp sales for non-motorized craft are designed to go towards public safety and improved law enforcement efforts – and to help maintain the state's waterways.
