Southeast Ohio Fishing Report – March 15th, 2013

Wills Creek Lake (Muskingum and Coshocton counties)

Anglers fishing below the spillway here are catching some saugeyes, some up to 20 inches, reports Bob Mathie at Bob’s Outdoor Supply. This 900-acre lake near Maysville will give up crappies, bluegills and saugeyes early in the spring. When the weather warms, try for them with jigs and wax worms or simply wax worms under a bobber. Fish for them with 3- to 4-inch grubs. Saugeyes will bite on Rapala Husky Jerks and Smithwick Rattlin’ Rogues.

Dillon Lake (Muskingum County)

Anglers fishing a backwater pond off Dillon have had good luck catching pansized crappies, Bob Mathie of Bob’s Outdoor Supply reports. Fish have ranged from 10 to 13 inches. Some saugeyes are being caught at the spillway, too. “It all depends on how hard they’re pulling (water) through it,” Mathie said. Anglers have also had some luck fishing the dock poles off the main marina for saugeyes and crappies.
