Central New York Fishing Report – January 25th, 2013
The warmup should made conditions better for the tributaries, but the cold weather is back. If you do go, use egg sacs and egg-imitating flies for steelhead.
The warm spell pretty much wiped out any chance of getting on the ice, but keep an eye on conditions now that the cold has returned. Things are shaping up for safe ice soon.
Fishing has been more difficult with the higher water, but some steelhead and brown trout were still being caught. The higher water – conditions may have changed by now – makes access difficult in some areas for shore anglers, but driftboat anglers typically do better with the higher water. Good baits continue to be egg sacs, beads, and egg-imitating flies.
The steelhead bite continued to be slow for most anglers. Slush ice may be a problem with the colder weather. Good baits are egg sacs (blue, pink, white or chartreuse mesh), trout beads, pink worms and stonefly patterns.
Nothing to report, but ice anglers are hopeful given the weather reports of late.
Nothing to report.
Some steelhead were being taken on egg sacs, trout beads and egg-imitating plastics and flies.
