Central Illinois Fishing Report – January 25th, 2013

Powerton Lake

Channel catfish and blue catfish have been biting on baby shad and cut baits. Hybrid striped bass are being caught on minnows.

Newton Lake

White bass biting is fair near the ash pond. Largemouth bass picking up but still slow. Crappies are slow. Catfish are biting on nightcrawlers.

Spring Lake

Muskie fishing has been fair to good. Crappies biting on minnows in 8 to 10 feet of water.

Evergreen Lake

Crappies and bluegills are being caught in about 10 feet of water. The McLean County Parks Department sent out this reminder to those planning to ice fish on Evergreen: A rule of thumb is to be sure the ice is at least 4 inches thick. Be sure and check ice conditions before heading out and follow a path if there is one. Because ice thickness can vary across an area, check more than one spot. Remember this rule of thumb: “Thick and blue, tried and true. Thin and crispy, way too risky.”
