Northeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report – January 18th, 2013
Quaker Lake (Susquehanna County)
A trout stocking is slated for Jan. 31.
Beltzville Lake (Carbon County)
As of Jan. 6, anglers were still catching numbers of panfish on mealworms, and some nice largemouth bass on shiners and minnows.
East Bangor Dam (Northampton County)
Chain pickerel were reported in early January. Anglers were catching them by free-swimming fathead minnows or fishing minnows under bobbers. The deepest part of this lake is about 8 feet and lily pad cover is thick, with some vegetation still in the process of dying back in early January.
The warm weather of early January made for productive duck and goose hunting on East Bangor Dam and other waters in Nazareth, Northampton and Berks counties. Duck hunters reported harvesting mergansers, shovelers, ringnecks and other more unusual species. Wood ducks also were reported in early January, which is much later than usual – owing to warmer weather. Bob Danenhower of Bob‘s Wildlife Taxidermy in Orefeld took in two nice bucks, a seven-pointer and an eight-pointer, harvested by customers during flintlock season in Lehigh and Schuylkill counties in late December.
