Northeast Pennsylvania Fishing Report – December 21st, 2012
Lake Wallenpaupack (Pike County)
Anglers caught striped bass trolling in late November, but fishing pressure was extremely light as of Dec. 9, with anglers waiting for ice, according to Wallenpaupack Sports Shop, which also reported disappointing bear and deer seasons.
Susquehanna River (Bradford, Columbia, Luzerne counties)
Anglers were catching smallmouth bass and walleyes in early December, with the bass coming on dark jigs, soft plastics, and live bait and walleyes hitting leadheaded jigs tipped with twister tails or live bait.
Lake Jean (Luzerne County)
A coat of skim ice was reported on this 245-acre impoundment in Ricketts State Park in early December.
Susquehanna River (Luzerne County)
The Tunkhannock area was yielding walleyes in early December, although fishing pressure was light.
Broadhead Creek (Monroe County)
Numbers of trout up to 5 pounds were reported on small metal spinners by two anglers in early December.
Nice catches of trout were reported although the bite had slowed by Dec. 9. The bass, walleye and muskie bites were quiet, but anglers were catching catfish. Willie Marx of Willie’s Bait and Tackle said deer season was extremely quiet this year.
Mauch Chunk Lake (Carbon County)
Pickerel and a few bass were reported in recent weeks, but fishing pressure was light.
