Southern Illinois Fishing Report – November 29th, 2012
Crab Orchard Lake
Catfish action has slowed somewhat. Bluegill action has slowed. Bass action is good on a variety of baits.
Crappies are being caught throughout the lake. Most fish being caught are keepers. Other anglers are still catching catfish drift-fishing worms just off the bottom in the middle of the lake.
White bass are also biting on the main lake on the flats. Flatheads are also biting well on cut bait. Cut bait also working as are slab spoons thrown up along the wall. Crappie fishing good below the dam.
Bass are good on spinnerbaits. Bluegills and catfish action is improving. Muskies are being caught in deeper water.
Lake of Egypt
Crappie fishing is fair. The fish that are being caught are still holding in 10-12 feet of water. Minnows and jigs seem to be equally effective. Catfish have slowed as the water has cooled.
Catfish anglers are working rip rap areas, Gun Creek, the subimpoundment dams and shallow areas. Shrimp, shiners, nightcrawlers and stinkbaits have all been effective. Bass are rated slow with some fish being caught on spinnerbaits, black buzzbaits and soft plastics. White bass also earn a good rating. Anglers are fishing curly-tail jigs in shallow areas and using minnows in rip rap areas.
