Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – November 9th, 2012

Lake St. Clair

Waterfowl hunting has been good and deer are active. Bucks are chasing does. High winds have kept anglers off of Lake St. Clair and fishing has been slow for those who have been able to get out. A few perch have been caught.

Irish Hills Area

Bow hunting has been good with some really big bucks being killed, but EHD has taken a toll on localized deer herds throughout the area. Bluegill fishing has been good on  Devils and Vineyard lakes. Pike and bass are hitting on Devil’s and Wamplers.

Brighton Area

Bucks are chasing does and the rut is on. Waterfowl hunters report good flights with a lot of mallards and wood ducks in the bag. Fall turkey season has been fair. Crappies, bluegills, bass, and pike are hitting on Crooked Lake, Woodland Lake, and Lake Chemung. Cranks are taking bass and pike and minnows and waxies are taking panfish.

Allegan Area

The rut is on and bucks are chasing does. EHD hit the area pretty hard, but there are still plenty of whitetails in the area. Waterfowl hunting has been fair. Salmon and steelhead are hitting spawn, crankbaits, and spoons in the Kalamazoo River. Perch fishing has been very good on the west side of Hutchins Lake.

Kalamazoo Area

The rut is on and bucks are active. EHD has hit in spots throughout the area. Waterfowl hunters report pretty good success with a few flight ducks starting to move in. Fall turkey hunting has been fair. Steelhead fishing has been good in the Kalamazoo River with spinners, spawn, and crankbaits all taking fish. Bass fishing has been very good on Gull Lake on blade baits and crankbaits. Decent perch fishing has been reported on Lake Cora on wigglers.

Grand Rapids Area

Deer activity is high. The rut is on and archers report very good success. Waterfowl hunting has been steady. Not a lot of flight ducks are arriving yet, but mallards and wood ducks are plentiful. Steelhead are hitting spawn and crankbaits in the Grand,  Kalamazoo and Muskegon rivers.
